PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY

While both sessions involve professional photography, a portrait photography session is a more in-depth, creative experience than a regular headshot session. My portrait photography is about telling a story, evoking emotion, and creating something lasting.

1. Portraits are crafted with storytelling in mind, whether that’s capturing a milestone, honouring a life journey, or simply creating an image that feels truly you. I work closely with each client to create something meaningful, especially when working with veterans and older adults, where the session can be part of a reflective and empowering experience.
2. These sessions are unhurried and tailored to the individual. That’s especially important for children or older clients who may need extra time to settle and feel comfortable. We focus on creating space for genuine moments rather than rushing through poses.
3. Preparation and planning ensure your images are unique and carefully considered—not just standard portraits, but heirloom-quality photographs.
4. Unlike headshots, which are typically lightly edited for business or casting purposes, my portraits undergo fine art post-processing. I apply advanced retouching techniques to enhance mood, tone, and texture—without losing authenticity. Each image is treated like a piece of artwork.
5. Especially for veterans, these sessions often go beyond just ‘having a photo taken.’ They can be powerful, affirming, and even emotional. You’re investing in something that holds long-term value to be passed down or displayed proudly.

On average, a studio portrait session is between 1-2 hours, depending on how much variety and options with clothing, styles, lighting and the aesthetics of the session you’re looking for.

I’ve been photographing people professionally for many years, and I’ve seen and heard this all before.

• I provide information on what to wear and tips about how to look your best.
• I will explain the process through, before your session.
• We take our time, starting with a chat, to help you relax, regularly checking and coaching you through the session.
• I can arrange a makeup & hairstylist if you would like one.
• I always shoot way more photographs than you need, so plenty of options exist.

I check and edit every photograph you receive to ensure quality. This may include:

• Cropping or straightening the photograph
• Correcting any colour imbalances
• Conversions to/from colour and black & white photographs.
• Adjustments to shadows & highlights
•  If requested and wherever possible, I’ll remove blemishes but keep them as naturally as possible.

Fine Art images require more post-processing and editing to create the “Art” style.

Yes. I work with several expert hair and makeup stylists and I can arrange these for you if requested.

My style of portrait photography is primarily studio based at my small studio in Welling, Bexley Kent. With easy access to the A2, off-road parking and a short walk from rail & bus routes.

I can provide location-based portraits using portable photography and lighting equipment. However, this does incur additional (travel, setup) charges

Clothing choice is essential for this style of portraiture to achieve the right feel for your photographs. However, I shoot specific styling for my portraits, so we would discuss this before you book a session to ensure it’s right for you. I’m more than happy to provide advice on what works well.

I have a specific style of portrait photography. It’s about using textured backgrounds, equipment and lighting to capture a natural look without forced expression.
