Laura Catherine Designs (Formally known as The Kraft Hut) is an independent Kent based artist (and small business) skilled in a variety of craft arts including Handmade Resin Gifts, Art Illustrations, Wood Burning, Knitting and papercrafts.
Laura was looking for some personal branding headshots and some behind-the-scenes, photographs to use for her social media channels and eventually on a website.
What inspired you to start Laura Catherine Designs?
I have always loved to draw since the age of about 9. I still have my first ever drawing of Belle from Beauty and the Beast and I even remember drawing it. I wanted to use a platform to be able to share my work and hopefully inspire others to do what they love. Hence the creation of Laura Catherine Designs.
What is unique about Laura Catherine Designs that you would like everyone to know about?
I celebrate the imperfections in my work as I think it represents that perfection is in the eye of the beholder. Not many things in life can be perfect but it all depends on the perception you have of it. Anything can be perfect in your eye.
What have you been up to recently?
I have been busy trying out new techniques in the little time I have at the moment. I try and fill every moment I have with some sort of art. I have a particular piece that I am working on, on canvas using acrylic paint. The funny thing is, it was supposed to be something else, however, the original piece I was trying to do kept going wrong (which happens on a regular basis) but while waiting for the canvas to dry overnight on my windowsill, I woke up the next morning and saw the work in a completely new light/different perspective and I have decided to take it into a new direction. I will be posting it on my Instagram in the next few weeks.
What are you currently working on or towards – What’s next for you – The Future?
I am slowly working towards getting more content/artwork out to the world and just enjoying the moment of creating. I don’t want to put too much pressure on myself. I have a few ideas up my sleeve on mediums that I want to try and just see how things go. I am continuing to get inspiration from other artists on social media.
What is your advice to aspiring artists?
There is no pressure to create perfection, I am constantly judging myself on my work, however, I judge myself constructively. I ask myself the questions: What did I do? What went well? What didn’t go so well? What did I find a challenge? What have I learnt? How am I going to put into practice what I have learnt? Reflection is a powerful thing and can really put things into perspective and help productively!
Who’s been some of the mentors/key people who are instrumental to your success & inspiration?
Strangely I can’t really say I have anyone close to me that is an inspiration, before Laura Catherine Designs I only used to draw on days I felt blue, it gave me something to put my negative energy into. And I used to feel so much better after producing something I was proud of. These days I have a group of artists of all ages, all across the world that I am a part of and we share our successes and failures which is really key as when I am having an art block they generally help me with ideas or even support when I’m feeling slightly off.
What did you learn from working with me at Graham Baker Photography?
After all these years, to be able to have worked with you again was a pleasure. Your direction during the shoot was very helpful (after me being many years out of the game). You have seriously gained such a good insight into the social media world and have evolved immensely. You know which direction your going in and its so nice to witness and be a part of. Your knowledge on social media already is so impressive and I would happily work with you again in the future.
How are you going to use your new brand images?
I want my followers to see the human side of me and that I am not just a hand in my photos. I want people to see behind the scenes and give The Kraft Hut a personal touch. Maybe write a bit more of an insight into my day to day life and the things that inspire me at that moment.
This photoshoot was pretty important for my business as I wanted to be able to show the human side to my brand and Graham's knowledge and expertise captured everything that I wanted. The images came out amazing and I am so grateful! Being in the presence of such a friendly and down to earth character made the shoot even better. We managed to capture some great images but have fun in the process. If I could give more than 5⭐️ I would! I Highly recommend Graham Baker Photography!
Thank you for capturing everything I had hoped for.
